| On Friday, May
23 & Saturday, May 24, the D.T.H.S. Music Department presented "JAZZ
The Fortieth Show. Just in case you
don't know what Jazz Show is all about, it is about comedy/variety show with
music provided by the D.T.H.S. Jazz Band. All of the comedy skits in the
show are written or adapted by the members of the Music Department and director
Mr. Richard Benzik. Everyone associated with the show is a member of the
Dwight Band or Marching Band Guard.
The Dwight Junior High Jazz Band makes a special guests appearances and plays two Jazz tunes lead by Miss Stephanie Lyon. This year, they performed "Soul Man" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" featuring Amber on Alto Sax. Songs performed by the D.T.H.S. Jazz Band were as follows: "Something Happened On The Way To Heaven" with a Tenor Sax solo by Lauren, "The Impression That I Get" featuring Matt on Guitar, "Rockit" featuring Ben on Keyboards and Ian, Mike and Jon-Paul on Percussion "What Is Hip?" with solos by Karly on Alto Sax, Jessica on Trumpet and Ben on Keyboards, a Special arrangement by Ben of the Killers "When You Were Young" with Ben on the Vocals, "Alright, Okay, You Win" featuring Mrs. Mary Pfeifer on vocals, "Hobo Flats" which featured Carrie on Trumpet, Karly & Chaney on Alto Sax and Ben on Harmonica in the opening Quartette, plus solos by Ben on Organ and Mr. Richard Benzik on Tuba ,as well as Alumni and of course, a band favorite, "Stairway To Heaven" featuring Matt on Guitar.
The entire show is put together in 4 intense, short rehearsal days (Monday-Thursday) with opening night on Friday. The Jazz Show is always performed on the last day for seniors and is the highlight of the year for those who attend and take part in it.
